Silloth Church Bells & Memorial Clock

The people of Silloth, in recollection of his good works in the neighbourhood, placed bells in the church, every ring of which reminded them of George Moore. The chimes were to peal a hymn which was one of his greatest favourites. The bells rang out for the first time on October 6th 1883. In August the following year a clock in memory of George Moore was installed in the Church which had opened in 1870, six years before George Moore died.

I hope to find out more information about these memorial bells and clock and include it in this section in due course. I have visited the Church and asked at Silloth Information Centre about these bells and what the favourite hymn was but haven't found anyone yet who knows. I gather that the bells are no longer functional. Anyone with information, please contact me. Email
